Drifting Ecologies: A Research and Process Showcase By Caroline Wright

21 - 27 October 2023
The showcase included writings, film work and remnants of large-scale, durational frottage drawings. Wright draws on the beach, at the edge of the water, over the course of a day, the weather, tides and waves fragment the work and much is washed out to sea. Wright swims in the sea and writes experimentally about the moment-by-moment physical adjustments her body makes to the conditions and risks they present. The production of both visual and written work comes from an embodied, sensate and temporal engagement with the coastal environment.

As a Doctoral student at the Royal College of Art Wright is researching the Suffolk Coastline to explore if the practices of drawing, walking, swimming and writing can address to lived experiences of rapid coastal erosion.
