Marc Garrett has worked in situ at Hamilton MAS for three months and created a new body of work through drawing, collage and painting, making art with his hands after 25 years working with digital technologies.
Part of our work at Hamilton MAS is to support artists living with invisible health conditions to make their work. Following a diagnosis of, treatment for and recovery from throat cancer Marc has wanted to relearn what it's like to be humanly connected to nature through art making.
Thirty years ago Marc lived in the countryside and made art that explored elements of folklore and methods of abstraction mixed with figurative motifs. These personal questions and universal themes of natural networks, the human body and mind have returned with urgency and potency.
