“We have drawn each other’s reoccurring motifs. Posted drawings to one another, drawing into them separately. We have drawn together virtually, following the other’s emerging drawing. And we have also met shoulder-by-shoulder in the studio, swapping over to draw upon the other’s image in ‘drawing duets.’”
Point-to-Point at Hamilton MAS was an exhibition of a new selection of drawings taken from an ongoing collaboration between artists Simon Carter and Jevan Watkins Jones. For over two years, since Spring 2019, Simon and Jevan have been ‘meeting’ at set times to draw on either side of a five mile stretch of the North Sea, between Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex and Landguard Point in Suffolk.
Mirroring the two sides of the mouths of the Orwell and Stour Estuary, Simon Carter’s drawings were presented on the left of the gallery space; Jevan Watkins Jones’ on the right.
A twenty-minute film by Noah Carter about the project in process was shown on a loop as part of the exhibition as well as at an evening screening on Friday 22nd October. This was followed by a conversation between the artists, and a Q&A.
The project has been supported by a bursary from Firstsite Collectors Group.
The exhibition was initiated and curated by Jevan Watkin Jones and Simon Carter.
